1 / 4Al HAMRA CINEMA SHARJAH
📍 Hay Al Sharq, Sharjah
Historic single-screen cinema in Sharjah showing primarily Indian films. Balcony and standard seating. Cash only — nearest ATM is inside Lulu Hypermarket opposite. Children under 4 enter free. Free parking behind the building.
Only single screen cinema left in the whole UAE. Must visit on FDFS to feel just like you are in India. Don't go to multiplex - support this historical place and enjoy the vibe on balcony. I love it <3
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families who grew up with Indian cinema culture and want to share that FDFS atmosphere with their children. Children under 4 get free entry.

“Completely overpriced for what is essentially serviced apartments with a solitary dining facility. The pictures made it look deceptively big where the hotel is actually very small. We were in a 2 bedroom suite on the 9th floor. Views were fantastic, rooms clean and great beds for a good nights sleep. The suite featured an open plan fitted kitchen area with microwave & sink and a seating area with 2 small sofas. The sofas were very uncomfortable with their springs digging into our posteriors each time we attempted to sit on them. The breakfast buffet choice was very limited and definitely not worth the Dhs 30 extra per person. They also keep your passports??!! Completely strange in this day and age. 'Sanjeev' (one of the shift managers) insisted on both mine and my wife's passport. I can't understand how or why such a rude man with no interpersonal skills is employed in a customer facing role.”

“One of the oldest theatre in the UAE, following the old trend. Only cash accepted, nearest ATM is inside the Lulu Hypermarket, just opposite to this theatre (take the subway). Plays mostly Indian movies, reasonable priced (AED 32 STD. ~ 38 balcony) with an average and decent movie environment. Children below age 4 go free. Free parking (kacha) on the backside and public parking at 2 AED per hour.”

Overview
Al Hamra Cinema is the only remaining single-screen cinema in the UAE. The experience is deliberately old-school: a traditional balcony, a packed FDFS (first day first show) atmosphere, and an almost entirely Indian film schedule. Reviewers who seek this out describe it as the closest thing to an Indian cinema hall experience available in the UAE. The building is aging — screen clarity and cleanliness draw criticism in recent reviews, and water ingress during rain has been flagged.
